Icon Design
Icon Design
For this Icon Project, I developed two distinct symbols and ultimately selected the one that I felt was stronger for my final design. My primary goal was to create designs that were simple, memorable, distinct, and dynamic. To guide my creative process, I focused on two sub-words that represent technology: connectivity and information.
The abstract design was conceived to symbolize connectivity. Initially, it was loosely inspired by the layout of a circuit board, but as I worked on it, the design evolved into a unique abstract form. The intention behind this design is to convey a sense of movement and progress, which is why it is oriented to the right—symbolizing forward momentum. This choice reflects the idea that connectivity drives us toward a more interconnected future.
For the representational design, I aimed to illustrate the concept of information through the use of a disc. A disc, while somewhat archaic, serves as a distinct and memorable icon that evokes thoughts of data storage and transfer. To emphasize the dynamic nature of technology, I designed the disc to appear as though it is spinning forward. This motion symbolizes the rapid pace at which technology evolves and progresses, capturing the essence of how information is constantly being generated and shared.
In the end, this project not only allowed me to explore the visual representation of important technological concepts but also challenged me to refine my design skills. I look forward to applying the insights I gained from this experience in future design endeavors.
